What would be a good software to use to write biographical sketches with pictures and be able to add captions to the photos? Would Word be the best for this? I use FTM 16 and I use it's book function, but I want something a little more versatile. Any suggestions are appreciated

I've seen a family history "notebook" done with individual biographical sketches @ photos. Each person was on a separate page and I assume the person used a Word program. I don't believe the older versions of FTM had this type of format either. I print all Family Group Sheets when I enter information so those could be used to enter information on a word document. Please let me know how you make out as I would like to do this.

I just had a reply on facebook to use Word or Openoffice. Openoffice is a free download. I played around with an older version of Word and it looks like it will work for me, but I was curious about any other suggestions. I will keep you posted. Sometimes I think the sketches might appeal more to some of my relatives and they might stand a better chance of being read. A lot of the material I can cut and paste from my notes in FTM.

If you then want to create a PDF file...download Cute PDF Writer...it installs like a printer. When you are done creating your document you choose "print" then "CutePDF" and it will allow you to choose where to save it a make you a .pdf file of it. It makes the files much smaller to send via email....
