Particulary of the towns of Parsonsfield, Saco, Cornish, or York County during the 1800's. Some of the names include Ebenezer, Zephaniah, Nathaniel and Hannah. My Great Grandmother, Edith Seavey was the daughter of Ebenezer J Seavey and Josephine Webb (or Nibb?). She was born in Lewiston. Her mother died of consumption 6 months later and her father died when she was 10 years old. She was then adopted by the Thompson family.

Permalink Reply by Eileen Surette on January 25, 2012 at 3:06am The "History of Rye, NH" by L.B. Parsons has much of the early Seavey Geneology recorded there. And, there are several members of that family in the "Vital Records of Kittery, Maine."
Captain John Seavey and a John Seavey are buried in the First Christian Cemetery on Haley Rd., in Kittery Point.
I'll keep my eye out for your family while searching. People moved around a lot. Many people from Maine ended up back in Boston during the 1800's. So, you might want to broaden your search. For instance, Capt. John Seavey died in Boston but he's buried in Maine.

I believe that my Great-grandmother's uncle had moved to NH, perhaps before she was born, from what I can gather from the records I've seen.

The Seavey family started out in Portsmouth, Rye and on the Isle of Sholes. But, they're found in New Castle, and other surrounding towns and up into Maine quite early. It seems that those people traveled a lot by boat. And, they bought land in many towns and in many different places. Man of them were ship builders and they moved on the ocean and up into inland water ways. Many bought and sold land so don't forget to check old Maine Deeds and Wills.

Permalink Reply by Stephanie Miller on January 26, 2012 at 8:13pm Do you have any Seavey's in your family tree? My aunt did a lot of digging years ago and found out that my Great-grandmother was adopted by the Thompson family when she was ten and found out that her real last name was Seavey. She had a difficult time finding information because of a wildfire that happened in the Parsonsfield and surrounding area I think in the 1950's. A lot of that data was lost because of it. Very interesting stuff indeed!
Thank you again!

Permalink Reply by Eileen Surette on January 29, 2012 at 1:05am In 1880, the grandfather is living still in Parsonsfield with his son Zepheniah Harden Seavey , Harden's wife, Louis(e) Seavey Edgar, Edith and Fred. This Edith is the daughter of Harden wouldn't it be because it states she is 5 years old.
In another 1880 Census, Edith O Thompson of Winthrop, Kennebeck, Maine is with her parents Clarence M. Thompson and Myrtella L. Thompson. Here, Edith is 4 years old. Regards, Eileen

Permalink Reply by Stephanie Miller on January 29, 2012 at 12:24pm I have Edith as being Ebenezer's daughter and I think that the information that my aunt gave me had the same thing. I did wonder about Harden at one point. I don't know if Ebenezer and Josephine Webb who supposedly was my great grandmother's mother that died 6 months later, were officially married at the time. That is the one and the same Edith though. My impression was that her grandfather allowed her to be adopted by the Thompson family because he was too old to care for her. I have often wondered about the names of the adoptive parents, so it will be fun to research them.
I did see the 1870 census of Ebenezer livinging in Lewiston Ward 6, so that has to be the same person as well.
I ordered through Amazon the "History of Rye, NH". I'm looking forward to having it in my collection.
Thank you so much for your information and help! :)
Permalink Reply by Eileen Surette on January 30, 2012 at 12:13pm Thomas and Ebenezer were purchasing land in Maine quite early. And, you'll find several deeds by them in the Rockingham, NH Registry of Deeds. Check both the Grantee and the Grantor for the early records. I believe Ebenezer had a son Ebenezer, Jr and they lived in Scarborough, Maine. It's a free site. And, I liked finding the two brothers living in Boston. I've seen that repeatedly when doing my own research. Good luck!
