Hi, Im a direct descendant of Thomas Hanscom, one of the early settlers of Kittery (1650). I have many prerevolutionary ancestors. Some of the names are Hanscom, Merrill, Kneeland, House, Thurlow, Staples, Libby, Gowell and Downing. Anyone here related to Kittery history also? Im especially interested in the section that is now Eliot.

I am also related to Thomas Hanscom: Thomas, Thomas who married Tamsen Gowel, Moses (who must have been a brother to the Thomas who built the house) who married Mary Field, Susannah Hansom who married Josiah Haley and so on down to me. Susannah and Josiah are my 5th great grandparents. Thanks for posting the Hanscom house!
Hi, good to meet you cousin. Im also related to Thomas who married Tamsen. Im related to Samuel, brother of Moses. Moses and Samuel were step brother to Thomas who built the house. In fact there was quite a family dispute about The Hanscom land recorded in the records between Samuel, Moses and there side of the family on one side and Thomas on the other.
Yes, good to meet you, cousin!
So, how did you find out about the dispute between the two sides of the family?
I am also a decendant of Thomas Hanscom through Anna Libby (b. 1774) who married Captain Elisha Goodwin (b. 1776).

I have many ancestors who are the original settlers of Ancient Kittery.

Hello, Colonial Kittery!

I recognize several of your surnames as neighbors of my Lewis, Hutchins, Mitchell, Black, and Perkins ancestors. The Perkins and Lewis families are a challenge!

Elizabeth Martin
Hello Elizabeth!

I have worked quite a bit on the Lewis family, if you would like to Chat sometime, let me know.

Charlotte
Hello, Charlotte,

My current brick wall is James Lewis born 1780 who married Abigail Parsons. I have some vague clues that James might be the son of Dimond Lewis. I believe Abigail is the daughter of John Parsons and Molly Wilson, but again the information is curcumstantial.

Any help would be appreciated. I hope to get down to the Old York Library & Archives this spring.

Ellizabeth
Hi Elizabeth,

According to Stackpole's "Old Kittery and Her Families" book which is now on Google books, James, b. 11 Jul 1780, is listed on p. 584 with his wife, Abigail Parsons, along with their children. But, Stackpole doesn't make it clear, on the preceding pages, exactly who his father is. Perhaps, when you work on the Parson family you may find more info on James.

Best of luck to you!! (And, I am pretty sure that you and I would have a common ancestor prior to James.)

Here are some of the surnames in my family tree from Kittery-
Nason, Weymouth, Hodson, Heard/Hurd, Thompson, Emery, Stacy, Wilkinson, Sherborne,
Heather,
I think you and I share a lot of common ancestors! From Kittery, I have Emery, Brackett, Decker, Frost, Gowen, Hodson/Hodsdon, King, Nason, Parsons, Small, Wilson, Woodsum and a few others.

Kathy
Hi Kathy,

You mentioned ancestors from Kittery by the name of Parsons: I'm researching Samuel Parsons who was born in Kittery @1824 and married Mary Foley in 1849 in Lynne, MA. I'm trying to find out who Samuel's parents were. My guess is that his father's name was also Samuel and his mother might be named Sally Hill. Do you have any info on these people? Or are you related to another Parsons line?

Linda
