Maine Genealogy Network

I have discovered all the basic info about my 6th great grandfather - Israel Davis.

The one thing I have been unable to find...his death date and location. One paper (from his Rev War Pension application of his widow0 says he died 1788-1789 in either Castine or Eastport. Even I know they are not close to each other...

I have searched and read much...am awaiting papers from Boothbay of other records [snail mail] . His family apparently moved to Pownalborough after the war.

Any help finding his death date, location, burial...would be GREATLY appreciated

Hi! Laurie...are you a member of Ancestry?  This site has a Capt. Israel Davis b 1728 in Massachusetts, d Boothbay Harbor Lincoln County Maine 1783.  He has a son Israel Davis, Jr. b 1757.  Let me know if I can help further...thanks, Nancy :)

P.S. My Davis line goes back to Wales.  You?

I am on ancestry...I do have him there...as well as my fairly large tree. His children are the ones who brought my Davis family to Liberty/Montville ME. His death date is the big question at this point...

I have a tangled mess with a couple Davis Lines....LOL...and the same one on my mothers side too...YIKES. Looks like they were Marlborough England mostly although the farthest I have "hinted" back on Ancestry does go to James Griffith Davis in Wales, b1487 - and there are hints further for him.

The  American family derives from John Davis of Newbury Mass the immigrant.

We're in the same line. James Griffith Davis (1487) s/o Guffudd Hywel Davis b 1450 Wales, GHD d in Wales. GHD s/o Ithel Ap Howell Davis 1430 and Ferch Thomas b 1430 Wales d Wales.

I'm back to 1347 Gualiter Ap Davis b Montogomeryshire, Wales.

Jimmy  b 1487 m Morgan Maud Lloyd b 1491 Wales, d Wales, date unknown.  They m 1515-Wales.  Their son John D. Davis b 1500 Acton, England m Agnes D. Davis.

We should compare notes and find our latest common ancestor.  I, too, am in process of submitting my package to DAR for membership.  You can "Search"  (button) on Ancestry for my tree if you like.  The name of my tree is "Davis Family 2011."  I still have mistakes and hic-ups but update and change information as I find it.  Have to run off to a genealogy meeting tonight, will check back with you tomorrow...hapi hunting!  Nancy

I will look....ah yes SIR John...  I think that his son James is it for our common ANCESTOR... yours were in NH?  Mine all stayed in Mass until going to ME. If this is your tree I am looking at now....

I, of course, go through Davistown, ME [now Montville] - LOL..... Israel was in the Boothbay [then Pownalborough] area and his son Charles was the one to head to Davistown. My grandfather was born in S Montville.

my tree....Davis Family Tree - NJLAD1

Well, I guess this makes us, altho' distant, cousins!  I will check out your Ancestry tree tonight.  Yes, my ancestors stayed in New Hampshire for a good while.  Thomas 1732 is my Patriot, who's yours and how close are you to becoming DAR member?

Didn't know we had a Davistown, ME-now Montville.  Will take a look on my Maine Atlas see how close I can come to ancestors I can't seem to locate up there.  I'm the only one in my family who left Maine and who's interested in this work.  And I can't get enough-

Are you a Mainer?  We both left the east coast in '59, married and  lived 35 years in California.  Transfered to Tallahassee in '97 for 3 years, D.C. 3 years then here in 2000.  Long way from 'home' , however, no more snow to shovel.

Thanks for letting me know about 'SIR John"I didn't know - it's great finding cousins online who'll share their geno...have to run...'talk' later...have a great day-Nancy
