Brothers Joseph (b.1752) and Samuel (b. 1754) Jackson arrived in Jefferson ME (Balltown) from Newcastle (ME ?) (there is also a NewCastle NH) in 1775. My mother has traced genealogy from them (their gravestones are in Jefferson) to us....but their parents remain a mystery.
Since Joseph is a Junior, we believe the father is Joseph and because each brother has a daughter named Mary, we guess it possible their mother could be Mary. They may also have another brother named Isaac married to Lucy Savage.
We considered and dismissed Joseph Jacksons from Boston. But there are some from NH that have possibilities- the Portsmouth Jacksons - descendents of Samuel. Those Jacksons have links to Kittery and York ME. We also dismissed descendents of Walter Jackson which include the Joseph who married Abigail Laskey.
I have never been interested in history in the past, but I have certainly become an insatiable reader of Colonial Maine and New Hamphire history as I have researched my family's genealogy. I have a full time job so I can only devote spare time to this project - but it is an on-going passion and one I plan to pursuefor years to come.
