Family stories of my grandfather Roland Edison Rhoades and his cousin Melvin Flagg point to Sarah Whalen being "an Indian Princess". Not totally sure of her last name. Of course we all know Indians did not have princesses and did not use royalty titles. Even "King" Philip was a white man's title given to him. Back then, before everyone WANTED to be able to say they had Indian ancestry, people were ashamed so that is likely where the "Indian princess" part of the story got added in.
