My great-grandfather Cooper and his brother served in Battery B of the Maine Volunteer Artillery during the conflict in Cuba. I've obtained a written transcription of their original diary chronicling their journey by ship via Boston and New York to Savannah, Georgia, and then on to Cuba. Although there's not much in the way of military  "action" reported,  a good number of names of other volunteers are mentioned.

Some years ago, I started transcribing the paper copy to computer so I could more easily share it with others. I'm not sure where that particular digital file is at the moment, but while I look for it I plan on compiling a list of names that appear in the diary and will post it for others to examine.

My great grandfather George Atwood Wilson Jr. was in 43rd U.S. Vols out of Augusta, ME (From Waterville) and served in the Philippines, and is mentioned in "A Military History of Waterville, ME" Augusta Press, 1908.  As are a TON of ppl ranging from the early settlement , through the Revolutionary war, Civil War, Spanish American war etc.... if interested you should be able to find a e copy on Google.
