Annette Hanser replied to Annette Hanser's discussion 'Butterfield Plantation' in the group Colonial Ancestors
"The Abbotts named their male children the same names quite often, so it took me a while to figure out from the military databases that the three who fought in the Civil War at the same time were Abbott cousins & nephews. I definitely need to…"

"Thank you very much! I have read the histories you mention above and found minimal information.  Yes, I live in the Belfast area and I will certainly make a trip to your Library when the weather warms up and dries out."

Butterfield Plantation

Interested in a link to publications or family stories mentioning Andrew Abbott (b. abt 1750) and his children. The only son I know about is George Abbott (1770), who married Tabitha Sawyer.  Andrew was one of a second wave of settlers to Sumner. Son George spent much of his time in Falmouth, and some of George's children stayed in Sumner, some moved back and forth from Sumner to Cumberland County.  An online biographical review of Sumner, Maine contains information that Andrew Abbott was a…See More

Nancy Lecompte replied to Annette Hanser's discussion 'Sarah Silence Abbott Cole' in the group Native American Ancestors
"Perhaps the "family lore" is referring to a different ancestor. It seems you have identified both her parents and I don't see that either of them are Native American. The parents (Andrew J & Rachael L Abbott) are identified in…"

Sarah Silence Abbott Cole

My daughter's family lore has Sarah Silence Abbott (married to John Henry Cole) as half Native American, but the census and death certificate state "white."  I'd be interested in any photos or further information on her genealogy. She was born in Franklin Plantation, Oxford County, Maine.See More
