No last names of women in records

I have come to the conclusion in doing genealogy in Maine, especially going into the old records (1600-early 1800s), that any reference to an Indian (Native American) being the wife of any white…Continue

Yep! it was common practice to hide them out of fear and Ignorance. I didn't know until I was 32 that I had Mi'kmaq and Maliseet Ancestry. My father told me before he died that it was the reason he left Maine at 17. I grew up in California…

Thank you so much for your response. I live in Sherman, Maine, way, way, way up in the northern part of Maine and don't have the vehicle for such a trip. So, if you could, or one of you could find out any information, I would be truly grateful.

There are several cemeteries on the Stoneybrook Road. One is very close to the road, another is further up at the crossing of Stoneybrook and Meadowbrook Road on the left as you turn the corner to the left, with another cemetery across from that.…

No, this seems to be a different Nancy Green, who lived in Phippsburg at the same time as Benjamin and Nancy. So the Nancy Green who died in 1894 is probably not the one who married Benjamin.

OK, that explains the discrepancy. There was another Nancy Green who lived in Richmond in 1880. She was the wife of Edward Green, and lived in Phippsburg in 1860 and 1870.

Sorry, when I said "you will have to rule out that Nancy," I meant that you will have to find more evidence to rule that out--not that you should rule it out based on the 1870 census info alone. Since the 1870 census doesn't indicate…

I don't understand. If your telling me that Benjamin Green was married to Nancy Carey (Cary), then why would I rule this 1870 census out? This indicates Nancy Green, widowed living with the Cary famly. This is why I did rule out Nancy Carey…

At 12:10pm on March 28, 2010, Hannah said… My husband is a descendant of Henry Green, son of Stephen & Yvonne Serote . He has had his Y chromosome testing done and it shows that that his Y ancestry (L21) is linked to the British Isles , especially Wales, Scotland & Ireland. However, when he had his overall ancestry done, it shows a high linkage to the Tsongas tribe in Africa. this would not be surprising, given that Henry married Martha Black. In addition, we don't know anything about Stephen's parentage. He does plan to have some upgrading done later this year.I have often wondered if there was any relationship between Henry & Benjamin Green of Phippsburg.
