Hi Judy,

I met some descendants of Marcena Johnson and Lucinda Brown this April in Everett, Washington. Your William Moore Johnson, son of Marcena, had a son also called Marcena born in 1852. Marcena (1852) had a son, Frederick William Johnson, who married Alice Louise Mercer, (1897 -1977) a great grand daughter of my great great grandfather, Rev. William Jenkins of Richmond Hill. Ontario. So, if you are related to Icabod Johnson or any of his descendants, we are almost kissing cousins!

More to the point of your search, the original Marcena who married Lucinda Brown, died in the wreck of the Lady Elgin. “Marsena raised 9 children and had two who died in infancy. He was lost in the wreck of steamer "Lady Elgin" on Lake Michigan, September 8, 1860 going from Chicago to Milwaukee. The writer of a genealogy document I read says that the writer was personally the last member of the family to bid him goodbye when he was taking the train from Quincy, Illinois to Chicago, with objective Milwaukee, to visit his youngest daughter, Mary Elizabeth.”

I have the names of the other seven children of Lucinda and Marcena but not their birth dates. I understand that two others died in infancy.

The line I have followed has Icabod, Icabod jr., Marcena, William Moore, Marcena, Frederick William, Ethel Mary, and finally Lance Ellis, 8 generations in all.

Ethel Mary had a brother named Max Marcena Johnson who passed away this spring. I met Lance and his sister, Janet Sigler in April 2012 in Everett Washington, just north of Seattle. I was updating the information Lance sent me when I came across your entry in the Maine genealogy site.
