the first few census only categorize the age group for people in the household - only head of households name listed. I know that I have found birth records prior to 1790 Maine...have you tried FamilySearch?

In 1840 they had 2 sons. The rest of the family on that census are way too old be belong to Oliver and Abigail. some had to be inlaws but from which family, Metcalf or Rankin? In 1850, they added a daughter.

I assumed she died. Even her direct descendants don't seem to know when however. I talked to someone who said Oliver went to war after she died. He was not a young man by any means.

I found one marriage record for Oliver and Abagail Rankins in Maine Marriages, 1771-1907.
Date given is 31 Oct 1830. This makes Abagail 15 instead of 14 and YET her first child wasn't born until 1835. Are we missing some children?

Maybe we should assume Abigail Rankin was also born in Wells, York, Maine?
