I finally got around to working on my sister Carol's research. I'm on the 9th generation now [Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Grandparents]. Recently found…"
"Did some investigating after I wrote. There definitely was a Henry Farnum who enlisted in the artillery at Roxbury in 1644, meaning he must have been born at by 1623. Therefore he couldn't have been a son of John and Elizabeth although if…"
This Farnham Line in America starts with John and Elizabeth (Holcrofte) Farnham who came from Devonshire, England and settled in Dorchester, Mass probably by 1636. Their oldest son I have listed as Henry (b. abt 1626, England) who died in…"
I stumbled over that error in the Boothbay Farnham write up for years. I never did find absolute documentation about Joseph Farnham, but there was enough other information that made me feel secure in disputing that earlier info (although I…"
"I'm descended from this John and Elizabeth (Holcrofte) Farnham who had several children's birth recorded in Dorchester, Mass. They appear to have had one (or possibly two) sons born in England born before their immigration. I found six…"
"Hi, For those working on the Hilton family -- there is a piece of property in the town of Solon that was reputed to be a Revolutionary land grant to a man named Hilton. It is on the Kennebec River, south of the town. Went there…"
The early Hiltons had such large families that they're sometimes hard to wrap one's head around!! I have 13 children for Ebenezer and Mary (Lord) Hilton. I only have definite birth-dates for two of them…"
"Looks Like Picton Press still has the Whitaker book http://www.pictonpress.com/store/MasterCatalog . You have to look in the index under Waldoboro. The book has a lot of info on the German families that came to broad Bay, However,…"
"I have that the first Cross to come to Vassalboro was Noah Cross (b. abt. 1710, Barrington, NH - d. bef. 1793, Vassalboro)
His wife was Lydia Cromwell of Berwick, Maine. The family was in Boothbay for a time before moving to Vassalboro. Lydia died…"
"I have ancestors James & Isabell (Dickey) Atkinson who resided in Winthrop, Maine. Supposedly James Atkinson came from Lancaster, England being born abt. 1739/40. Isabell Dickey was born about 1756. I'm wondering if there was an immigrant…"
"I have Benjamin Palmer in my database as Hannah Atkinson was a sister my ancestor James Baldwin Atkinson. Unfortunately I don't have any info on him. However, you might want to investigate a William Palmer Jr. (b. abt 1785) and his wife Anna…"
I finally got around to working on my sister Carol's research. I'm on the 9th generation now [Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Grandparents]. Recently found out about the Clement Moody thing (Scottish POW). Did some digging and think I may be descended from 6 of those POW's.
Was impressed enough to go to Ancestry and have my DNA tested, and, surprise, surprise, I'm exactly who I thought I was: mostly British, with some Irish and German thrown in [and of course some Scandinavian blood from those Norse pillagers and marauders]. The test showed that I belong to one genetic community: "Settlers of Maine" which is a subset of "Settlers of Colonial New England" - no surprise there either!
Are they still having Moody reunions? My son is starting to get interested in genealogy and history and I'd like to ask him to drive up to Nobleboro sometime.
Hi, For those working on the Hilton family -- there is a piece of property in the town of Solon that was reputed to be a Revolutionary land grant to a man named Hilton. It is on the Kennebec River, south of the town. Went there many years ago, and was impressed with the beautiful location. Gook luck! Contact back to me if you wish, I'll try to see if my memory can come up with anything else!
Well, you are searching a few of the families I"m searching. I don't think our HIlton line is the same line though. The Hilton line I"m searching comes from William (1) William (2) Mainwaring (3) Ebenezer (4) and down through Ebenezer's children. Ebenezer was married to Mary Lord. Is this the same Hilton line? One of Ebenezer and Mary's sons, Ebenezer II, married Anna Sawyer of Falmouth.
