Figured I would group all these fine ladies into one discussion, as they all have a couple common denominators.  Most were born in southern maine in the 1700's.  I'm hoping for any help or leads on…Continue

My Aunt Eileen just brought over another Rowe Hill school picture, probably from a year or so later. She says that Aunt Vera wasn't able to identify anyone else in your picture. According to what she was told, kids were allowed to go barefoot…

I think I saw this picture once at a historical society slideshow, but it's great to see it up close. Thanks for sharing!   1918 sounds about right. Colby Ring had a couple of sons of about the right age to be the other two boys on the…

Thanks Chris.  I was able to identify Edgar, Ted and my grandmother, Gladys, but didn't realize it was Rowena next to her.  Now that you mention Linwood, there is a definite resemblance.  Wasn't sure about the others, but…

This is definitely the Rowe Hill school. The little red-headed boy in front is my grandfather Edgar, and I believe his brother Ted is standing to his left. Not sure if their sister Netta was still in school at this point. Gladys is in the back next…

No, you can not get the book anywhere. Rumor is that only 2 or 3 originals exist. Maine Historical Society in Portland has a "copy" and I have a copy of their copy. I transcribed the whole thing so that anyone could read it. Perhaps I should make it available in .pdf version.

If you contact me at helpdesk@nedoba.org I can fill you in on some of the aunts, uncles, cousins etc. of Loren. I have compiled a fair amount of data thanks to the generosity of other Newell descendants (unfortunately some have passed on and others I have lost touch with over the years).

I believe the original picture of Soc is in the Greenwood Historical Society. I think they have 2 or 3 prints of him.

Are you aware of book "The Life of John W. Johnson". John married Susan Newell (sister to Loren) and traveled around with the Newell family band just prior to the Civil War. Loren (Soc's father) is specifically mentioned. You will find it on my website nedoba.org. You will also find Louis Belmont Newell on our old website. He is a cousin to Soc and a very colorful showman.

Hi Troy  An answer to the question of the George W Farrrinton and wife, Asenath Stone I do beleive you have more than me. I do have a copy of Robert N Farrington's Ancestors and Descendants of George Washington farrington and Lydia Ann Nason if that would help. I poked around Acestry also but, I imagine you had done this also.

Now that is really wondrous!  It is a beautiful, beautiful country, but how did people farm there?  Was it not difficult?  I think my great great grandfather Ezra Bradford must have thought he died and went to heaven when he got to Iowa--flat, great farmland.  His mother was Mary Wentworth.

I love your photos up there!

*I* am really not, except probably distantly, but my niece is on the other side of the family!!!!  And this is very cool.  But the guy who is responsible for Greenwood on the Maine site said a Jordan and a Bradford married, so we are distantly related.  Are you still in Maine?  I drove up to Greenwood on a beautiful day two or three years ago, but I am in Minnesota.  HI!

Hi Troy,

I'm so sorry I had not gotten to you till now. Are you still working on the Farrington line? I do have quite a bit but, perhaps you have something I don't and me for you.  Give me a heads up if you are interested. We are listed in the phone book.

Thanks, Joyce

Hi Troy, there were also a family of Emery's in Gardiner where I grew up. One, Laura and Don Emery lived quite close to us, and she was my Girl Scout leader in grade school. They had two sons, Don Jr. and Ronald. Ronald died many years ago, and Don married Barbara Wakefield and they now live in Florida as far as I know. If they are both still living. I'm 73 and they were my playmates in school and my best friends.
