In all my years of research we(my cousins and I) believe there is no connection with our family and the McKinney's of Aroostook County..........We believe they came down from Canada in the 1800's......sorry I can't help more.…"

It will have a few pages on the Leighton's I do alot of research in the Fall at the Maine History library in Portland . You can contact them online they have a website.....they will do limited lookups I believe.the Head Librarian is Nick Noyes you can mention my name if you want. He has assistants Bill and Jamie who might help as well. Merrill is also a big name in Portland and if I am not mistaken a Merrill sits on the board of MHL (Maine History Library) They have the largest holdings in the state and I am sure they have more than one Merrill and Leighton genealogy in their holdings.
