Searching for Ernest J. Woods

My great-grandfather James Woods and his wife Ocelind, supposedly had a child by the name of Ernest, who according to family lore, was taken away by the paternal grandmother, and never returned. We are still searching for any evidence of his further existence, and hope that anyone here can help with information. Thanks.......

COUSIN QUEST THOUGHTS

While I was putting together the previous post on the descendants

of Jonathan Phelps West, I was struck by a few thoughts.

One was about the number of instances where West siblings married

siblings from other families:

Asa Atwood West married Matilda Barker Marston, sister of Abel Gage

Marston who had married Ann Matilda West.

Brothers John Cuvier West and Paul Leroy West married the Enman

sisters, Emily and Josephine.

Sisters… Continue

COUSIN QUEST: THE FAMILY OF JONATHAN PHELPS WEST

This is the third in a series of posts that hopefully will eventually be

seen by other descendants of John Cutter West and Arvilla Ames

who might want to contact me. Their second son John Cutter

West Jr died at the age of 18 in 1850 without any issue. The third son,

Jonathan Phelps West, however did have children and many

descendants, including myself.

I have a few observations about some of the information here but

since this is so large I'll save them… Continue

COUSIN QUEST: THE FAMILY OF ASA ATWOOD WEST

This is my second post in search of other descendants of John Cutter West and

Arvilla Ames.

Asa Atwood West was their eldest son. He was married three times, his first wife

being Matilda Barker Marston, the sister of his brother in law Abel Gage Marston.

Asa and Matilda's first three children were daughters who all died young. One

died in infancy, the other two died in the diptheria outbreak of the winter of

1861-1862. Their two youngest were born after the… Continue

COUSIN QUEST: THE FAMILY OF ANN MATILDA WEST

I've written before about how I've been contacted by distant cousins

as a result of my blog or because of Facebook. Last week I mentioned

my distant cousin Michael who shares my descent from Minuteman

John Ames had found me through West in New England. A few days

after I posted that, I heard from my cousin Betty. She's the great

granddaughter of Hiram West, brother of my great great grandfather

Jonathan Phelps West. And earlier this year through Facebook I… Continue

The Maker family of Kennebec, Lincoln, and Knox Counties, Maine

I am looking for the parents (or brothers or sisters) of Eliza S. Maker (wife of John Chase), b. 4 Oct. 1816 & d. 20 Mar 1894. She had eleven children. She lived in St. George, Know County in her early years, and Hallowell/Chelsea the rest of her life. She is my great, great grandmother. Some on Ancestry.com say her father was Jonathan Maker, the unmarried son of Jonathan Maker and Hannah Tennant of Knox County. Can't find any resource documenting that Eliza Maker even had any parents or… Continue

Searching for John Gilley of Maine

Hello! I am searching for information on John Gilley (not the Maine farmer and fisherman) as far as his decendants as well as any "proof" that he came from Ireland and in what year. Any help would be great!
Thanks!
