Elizabeth Irwin Kane's Blog (15)

Apr 1881 divorce, Cumberland County

I was able to download a zip file to my desktop but cannot open it. Do I have to order a hard copy from the Maine State Archives or is there a simple (free) way to access the information? William F. Irwin v. Catherine McKennon Irwin.

Penobscot Expedition

Can anyone recommend a good book on this. I'd like one that also covers the rescue of the settlers.

Family Search Records

The batch film source numbers are the same for each of Abraham Winslow's eight children, but the batch and source numbers for his marriage to Betsey Welch 12 Feb 1789 differ from those of the children. Can these numbers be used to find information online or by writing to the state? I was wondering if the marriage numbers might reveal the names of parents of the bride and groom?

Elijah Winslow Cemetery

Does anyone have any information on the history of the cemetery? I've traced my family back to Eiljah Winslow (1739-1822) and his wife Eliza (Elizabeth?). Any information on the grandparents would be wonderful, as well. I have their children but nobody before Elijah and Eliza. Many thanks.

Clough in Genealogical and Family History of the State of Maine

I've been trying to find Clough in the Vol. 1 index without any luck. Any idea why?

3 Vol. set, Genealogical & Family History of the State of Maine

Please, no down East remonstrances, such as, "did you just fall off a turnip truck?". I bought the three books through Amazon and suspected there might not be an index. I was right. Talk about a grueling process. Does anyone know of a computer program that sifts through these thousands of names and dates? I figured I might be able to look families up by last name. No way. Any ideas.

Elizabeth Leach Welch

Trying to find a birth date for Elizabeth Betsey Welch. The only person who looks like a possiblity is Elizabeth Leach Welch, b. 28 May 1775, and baptized in a church in Windham, Cumberland, Maine. The father's name is not listed. The Mother is Catherine Welch. Is this an accidental omission, or is Elizabeth's mother likely yo be a widow or unmarried?

N.B. My Elizabeth Welch married Abraham Winslow on 12 Feb 1789 in Freeport. He died 6 Feb 1806; she died in Aug 1840.

Abraham Winslow

Did the Winslows who settled in N. Yarmouth come from a certain part of Massachusetts or New Hampshire? I know that Kenelm Winslow and Mary Hopkins of Mass. had twins, Abraham and Isaac, who were baptized in the 1st Parish of Harwich (now Brewster), but I am not sure that that Abraham is the one who lived in N. Yarmouth and is my ancestor. I also don't know if he's a son, grandson, or other relative of Mary and Kenelm.

Jeremiah Clough and Marcey

I've hit another brick wall and wonder if any of you can help. I'm descended from Jeremiah and Marcey Clough's daughter Esther. All of their children were born in Freeport: Hannah (1791), Lydia (1793), Jeremiah (1794), Esther (1795), Susannah (1797) and Joseph (1800). I can find no record of a marriage. I'd like to discover Marcey's maiden name. Also, I can't find Jeremiah's parents. Thanks in advance.

Samuel Winslow's children

Samuel Winslow is listed on the 1800 federal census next to my ancestor Abraham Winslow. I am hoping that he might be Abraham's

father, or perhaps a brother. They were living in Freeport.

Abraham was killed by a falling tree in 1806 at age 43. Is there some way to discover the…

Abraham Winslow and Elizabeth Welch

I'm trying to find the parents of this couple married in N. Yarmouth on 12 Feb 1789. Abraham died in Freeport on Feb 1806 when a tree fell on him. Elizabeth was given his widow's pension for his service in the Continental Army, 8th Company, 3rd Massachusetts Regiment . I'm descended from their son Thomas and grandson Amasa. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Amasa & Betsey Winslow

I'm looking for Betsey's maiden name. She and Amasa were married 2 Jan 1848.
Amasa was born in Freeport on 4 Oct 1823 to Thomas Winslow and Esther Clough.
Betsey appears on the 1870 federal census, but a 2nd wife Addie A. appears on the 1880 census.
