My Grandfather Henry J Hughey born in Canada 1870 married in Maine (Moose River) to Bernice ( maiden name Orr) had 5 boys including my Father Thomas Theodore Hughey + 3 girls.

Three family members worked as Guides and were involved with a Sporting Camp in the Moose River area.

I believe my Great Grandfather left Northern Ireland arriving in Canada and then on to Maine.

I cannot continue my search without his full name - any ideas /help would be appreciated.....thank you :)

The birth records of some of his children give Henry's birth place as Marlow, Quebec. He was evidently the James Henry Hughy, born about 1870, who lived in Linière, Beauce, Quebec, in 1871. Here is a link to the census image, which shows him in the household of William Hughy and Mary Armstrong:

This family had moved to Somerset County, Maine, by 1880:

I found the baptism record of James Henry Hughey in the records of the Presbyterian Church of Linière:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1942-25845-23795-24?cc=192...

I believe it reads, "James Henry, Son of William Hughey, farmer, township of Marlow, and Mary Rachal Armstrong, his wife, was born on the twenty third day of February one thousand eight hundred, and seventy; and baptized on the sixth day of March, of the aforesaid year by me."

Hi Chris - I am really surprised and impressed with your prompt reply - thank you. The information you have supplied relating to my Great Grandfather is very helpful. I now know his name and approximate year of birth and my next step would be to try and find out where in Northern Ireland he lived and when he left for Canada.

I am new at this and your help has been gratefully appreciated!

I am keen also to find out if I have any living relatives in Maine as my Grandfather had 7 siblings including my Father!

Thank you once again

I'm currently researching the 1880s autograph album of Abbie Hughey of Moose River, Maine.  Her parents were, I believe, Robert Adams Hughey and Jane (Ray) Hughey.  Robert was the son of William Hughey and a Jane.  I think your William was a brother to Robert.  I wish I could tell you one of the pages was signed by your grandfather or great grandfather, but sadly no.  All of the Hugheys who signed were siblings of album owner Abbie.

Hello Pam - Thank you for your information on a branch of the hughey family. Spending all my life in England and knowing very little of my fathers side of the family I get quite excited when I receive a little more info and would appreciate anything else you may come across during your research that you feel may be of interest to me. Also may ask why you  have chosen to do a research on Abbie Hughey.
