Appleton was in Waldo County until 1860, then Knox. Which courthouse would have the deeds filed in the 1850s?

Deeds from the 1850s would be located in Waldo County, though Knox should have copies of those deeds. The Knox County website says that "Our records date back to 1760, which include the records of Lincoln, Waldo and Hancock Counties before Knox County was incorporated on April 1, 1860." They seem to have the indexes for these early records online here, but not the actual deeds.
