William Herbert McDonald (b. 1857) who was the "Night Editor" of the "Eastern Argus" newspaper wrote an article in 1910 on the family of General John McDonald of Limerick, Maine. In this article he alludes to the possibility of a family connection to Major McDonald of Topsham.

Peletiah McDonald was an uncle to Gen. John and William Herbert McDonald was a direct descendant of the General.

One possible link is the fact that Peletiah's son George named a son Major and Peletiah's daughter Joan Sturgis also named a son Major.

If this could be proven it would link the Gorham, Maine families to the Topsham/Brunswick/Harpswell McDonalds.
