Does anyone know of a good history or other source for information about the War of 1812 in Maine - particulary in the Kittery area.  I am looking for any information, but particularly information on Captain James Ayer;s Drafted Co. under Major Simon Nowell's command - Oct to Nov 1814

The Maine State Archives (in Augusta) has some War of 1812 service records.  I believe they are now available on ancestry.com.

A lot of town histories have information about who in the town fought in the various wars, often citing whose company the men enlisted in, how long they served, etc. The Maine State Library is a great source if your town history was ever written.
