I am looking for some help with my husband’s geneaology in Maine.

He is descended from John Bridge, Puritan, Cambridge via the Matthew line.  My question is about another side (Grant) of the family that I have hit a dead end on:

My husband’s  grandfather was Malcolm L. Bridge born in Parkman, Maine.  Malcolm was the son of Alton Alonzo Bridge and Bertha Louise Grant Bridge (born in Sangerville, Maine).  Bertha was the daughter of Smith Hopkins Grant born 1849 in Frankfort, Maine.

I just can’t seem to find any information about the parents of Smith Hopkins Grant.

Any help would be appreciated.

Smith Hopkins, aged 7 months, was living in Frankfort in 1850 in the household of William and Clarinda Grant:

William Grant and Clarinda Tibbetts married in Waldo County, Maine, in 1840:

Clarinda had previously married ______ Tibbetts. Her maiden name was Clarinda Hopkins, the daughter of Smith Hopkins and Susan Dwelley of Prospect and Frankfort.

THANK YOU!

You have been so tremendously helpful. I'm very grateful you took the time to help out.

My husband's family has always been focused on the Bridge side and they ignored that Grant connection that supposedly goes back to Peter and John Grant (and thus, Ulysses S. Grant).

I'm not good at genealogy and I was on overload over on familysearch.org.

Now I'm getting the hang of it and I've been able to go back to 1700s and Capt. Samuel Grant.  I think I might be getting there.

Again, thanks so much!

Pam
