I found a book or books volumes 1-4 that have an index with family surnames to the page the surname can be located.  These books can be viewed online for free.  I found some ancestors of my own in the books.

The name of the book is, "Genealogical and Family History of the State of Maine", Volumes 1-4, by Burrag and Stubbs.

You have to look through all four volumes to find the surname.  They do list which page the surname is located.  There are over a 1,000 pages to the whole book, or books.

Just do a Google Search and enter the name of the book.  Might take a little time to research it.

The Maine State Library also has Ebooks available too, I'm looking into that too.

Good Luck,

I agree, these are excellent resources. Here are links to Volume 1, Volume 2Volume 3 and Volume 4 at Internet Archive. And Volume 1, Volume 2, Volume 3, and Volume 4 at Google Books.

Thank you Chris for adding the links.  Saves time.
