I'm doing research on Silas Brooks, who we suspect might have been an orphan. He was born between 1830 and 1835 and lived with Chase, Mary and Emma Libbey in 1850. He became a whaler at some point and ended up in Sonoma, CA which is where he married Rebecca Williams (Sensibaugh), had children and died. His civil war draft and another census says he was born in Maine, but his wife didn't know what his parents names were when she filled out his death certificate. He was a farmer.

I'm interested in the Libbey family also and how they may have come to have Silas living with them. Where did he come from? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I thought perhaps that Mary may have been a sister, but that didn't work. Here is what I found on little Emma, Based on that 1850 Census.

Well, thanks for trying anyway! :-) I'm hoping the Brooks family lived nearby or there's a record in an orphanage or something.
