I would like to know the source of the war of 1812 records that are in the Mainegenealogynetwork database. I found my 4th greatgrandfather, Horace Brown. The record in this database says he was born in Cushing. His record from the National Archives in Washington states he was born in Thomaston. I am wondering why the records are not the same. I know the 2 towns are close and the boundaries probably changed. Cushing makes sense because Simon Brown, who I believe was his father, was a resident of Cushing, according to land deeds.

Those records came from the Maine State Archives, and probably originated in the Adjutant General's office. It is likely that the information came from Horace himself, perhaps at the time of enlistment.

You can view a list of Cushing boundary changes here.
Thank You Chris!!
