African American former slaves in Maine around 1770 - current. Surnames: Atus and Henry

Hi There,

We are searching for anyone else who is a descendent of London Atus, who was born in NY or NJ in the 1750's and moved to Machias, Maine with his former "owner" Reverend James Lyon. They came to Machias around 1772. London married and had many children with Eunice Foss, who was the daughter of the prominent white Foss family in Machias.

We would be interested in connecting with any other Atus descendants or descendants of Peter Henry, an African American man who seems to arrive out of nowhere in Machias and marries London Atus's daughter Sophronia around 1827.

We would also be interested in connecting with any Lyon descendants for the purposes of sharing information and trying to figure out where London's parents may have come from. They were probably slaves of Rev. James Lyon's father.

Any information, thoughts or stories would be appreciated!
