I could not find a birth certificate for him but if you check Ancestry.com you will find him in the 1870 and forward census.  It also has his Death Certificate, record of him staying at Togus for some disease and his Civil War Registration.  According to his death certificate he was born in Barnston, Quebec as you mentioned.  It did also list his father as being born in Canada but his mother was born in NH.  That also appears on each of the census that he is listed on.

I have alot of info on him manuy photos death record he can be found in 1850 census in vt the info im looking for is to go back from him

He received a Civil War pension in 1915 for the sum of 21 dollars per month certificate number 468,454. He was a private in Company G, 7th Regiment Maine Infantry, in Civil War. The 1840 census for Maine list a John Plant in Brunswick Maine. males under 5=1 males 5-10 = 1 males 20-30=1 females under 5=1 females 5-10=1 females 20-30-=1 I think this could be family of Joseph's father as his obituary states that he was here by 1842 that would mean that his fathers family was here as well and this is the only Plant family in Maine that could be the one. Joseph Plant was 5'10" tall and dark complected and weighed 235 lbs. He married in Oxford Maine, and went into the Civil War from Lewiston Maine. It is odd that he was naturalized September 18, 1880 and his papers read I have been living in this country since coming to Monmouth Maine four years ago (1876). That is odd and it is also odd that he received his civil War Discharge January of 1890 by authority of the Secretary of War , they state that he was Discharged September 21, 1864. also his Civil War record in Augusta Maine states that he left service by Desertion. I have been told that he was a woodsman and met his wife from working in the woods with her brother Joseph Jordan. OBITUARY Joseph Plant died March 7,1921 at North Jay Route 4 . The funeral was held in Wilton where he died. He was the son of Joseph Plant and Sarah Hill and was born in Barnston Stanstead Canada October 27,1839. he had lived in the US since 1842 becoming a US citizen at an early age. He enlisted in the Civil War and was in Co.G 7th Maine Infantry, and served in the 7th Maine Regiment Co. G . from apr 6 1864 thru aug 21 1864 He was in the Battle of Spothsylvaina Courthouse and The Battle of the Wilderness, later Honorably discharged from the service September 21, 1864. He had been a resident of Livermore Falls for 33 years, he had also lived in Monmouth, and Canton Point. He leaves besides his wife four children Lillian Lees, Portland Maine, Walter Plant, Moose Hill, Livermore Falls Maine, Ida Royal of Livermore Falls Maine, Cora Plant of Livermore Falls Maine. Burial was in the Family lot in Dixfield Maine, in the Riverside Cemetery. Extra Note he also had lived in North Jay Maine, and Canada. Joseph Plant and his wife Isadore Jordan came to Livermore Falls from Monmouth Maine.
