Bar Island in Acadia National Park is today completely owned by the National Park Service. The island features a number of unofficial trails along with one official summit trail, the most interesting trail begins at a sharp turn along a dirt road, the path is hard to see but hidden behind some brush and is known as the Bar Island Glacial Trail and leads to two massive glacial boulders. The Bar Harbor
canoe Club once called the island home with its club house located here, and Mr. Pineo once raised prized dogs here with his large kennels. Jack Perkins who worked at PBS doing the voice on many of their TV productions also called half the island home for a number of years. In Deaths of Acadia National Park website at least one young child has drowned trying to cross over to the island, which can safely be crossed at low tide.
