Hi Charlotte,

I am realated to Walter Norton thru Nathaniels wife Hannah Sawyer.  But don't know who Nathaniel is descended from.  My brother did DNA for me and Nathaniels distant ancestors are from Ireland and they say a descendant of Niall of the Nine Hostages. They were ancient High Kings of Ireland.  I need a more recent hookup, tho I haven't had alot of luck.

Hi Charlotte,

I see you added me as a friend.  What Nortons are you related to?

Hi Charlotte, Thanks for the inquiry regarding Andersons of Aroostook County. My Anderson connection is my great-grandparents, Andrew and Christine Anderson, they both immigrated to Maine from Sweden in the late 1800's. I still have much more research but I have several connections to the New Sweden/Stockholm, Maine area. If you look at census reports from Aroostook- there are many, many Andersons!!! I haven't even begun to attempt the records of Sweden yet :) I don't have any known connections to any of the other surnames you are researching. Feel free to contact me if we have any research in common. Good luck and have fun

Hi Elizabeth,

The Studleys that I have were up in the Bremen and Monhegan Island area. However, my mom always thought that her family went to visit graves of Stoodley's but we can not figure out how they are connected or if they were two different lines.

As far as Lewis's go, presently, I do not know of a James Lewis. I am descended from Peter Lewis who lived on Smuttynose Island in the Isles of Shoals but sold out there in 1683. He then bought land on Spruce Creek in Kittery and had several children, Peter II, Andrew (both of whom are my ancestors), Ann, Morgan and Mary, Ann, Rebecca, Sarah and Elizabeth. All of these children were born in the 1600's, so if your James lived in Kittery, he was very likely a descendant of Peter, Andrew or Morgan. Have you read Everett Stackpole's book on the history of Kittery, published in 1903? It has a lot of early Kittery genealogies in it.

I will let you know if I find a James Lewis or a Mary Stoodley. My mom's cousin is in her 90's and I am hoping to visit her to see if she can shed any light on the Stoodley/Studely name.

Let me know if there is anyone else that you think I may be able to shed some light on. Good luck with your search!

I just saw a Studley stone in your photos. Are yours sometimes called Stoodley? I have a Mary Stoodley who married Joseph Graves and I'd love to know Mary's parents. I am descended through their daughter Mary Elizabeth Graves; this is one of my brick walls.

Hi, Charlotte,

I go back to James Lewis, born in 1780, who married Abigail Parsons. I can't seem to find James 1780's parents. Then there are other assorted Lewises...but perhaps start with James.

Hi Charlotte,

Nice to hear from you. Yes, we may have communicated previously on some other Maine family lines. I'm interested in many different families with Aroostook and Washington County connections, including Butterfield, Gellerson, Ellis, Noyes, and Orser. Tamerlain Orser and Charles Anderson, would be two of the people with Haynesville and Orient area connections, and interest to me. Off hand I don't recall any Collier connections to the Ellis family, but the Hodnett's are my Ellis connection.

This Maine Genealogy network seems very promising. I hope it catches on. I've only recently heard about it. You seem to still be quite active in genealogy. I'm very interested also, but my available time is unfortunately limited.

I use Ancestry.Com quite a lot. It's expensive, but has lots of records.

Al Hodnett
