Yes, that is the road. I suspect it is the place i'm referring to, The small house/cabin is just before the cellar holes. Have attached a pic of a small portion of cellar holes. Next time I go out there I'll try to get a pic that encompasses to whole place. Also attached view from top of ledges. Thanks for info.
Chris, looking for info on old homestead on Patch Mtn. It is on unnamed atv /snomo trail (former road) about 1.25 miles southwest of Willis Mills off Horseshoe Trail heading toward No Norway. The unnamed road branches to left. off Horseshoe Trail and goes up to the Patch Mountain Ledges. Fairly near the start of this atv/snomo trail is a very large group of cellar holes. All the cellar holes are connected so it was likely a house with barn, sheds, other outbuildings. Do you have any idea what family might have lived here? Had to have been a big place. Thanks, Betsey PS Hiked to ledges today and saw cellar hole complex
Thank you, Chris, for helping with the two Norway cemeteries. With your help I've finished with all of Oxford County. I am truly grateful. John W.
Thank you, Chris. At one time I had those parents listed for him but discarded that connection after contacting Jay for existing records they had. His biography just says birth in Maine, exact place unknown. I've researched him for years.
Thank You for your prompt attention to mr. pollard. larrybrooks
Thank you so much you have been a big help to me on this journey. I appreciate this and now looks like its going in an entirely different direction. I can not wait to see where this takes me. That just goes to prove that some things are not what they appear to be. I will post my findings thanks again
Wow that is very interesting. I was not sure if that was the same thomas. That would put his parents born in canada. And take this a whole new way from what I am seeing. How do you trace canadian roots and is there a way to chase them back to mass or new hampshire or even Maine for that matter. I am totally confused. I saw that one for thomas being born in 1899 but was not sure if it was him considering both his parents were born in canada. But I will go from there. thank you this helps a great deal.
Exactly! Thought I'd found the only one but a trip around the cemetery revealed one more. There are no traditional GAR markers (star-shaped) in the cemetery. Checked for possible link with GAR Ladies Auxiliary but nothing. Thinking that this may be a local chapter medallion. Am half tempted to catalog location and take to the state archives. The one shown here was sticking in a hole in the base of a tipped over stone but the woman buried there was not the wife of a soldier. May have been placed there by mowing crew.
