Thomas - I'm descended from John Allen (b. 1760 Pembroke, MA and moved to Greene, ME), who had a son Isaac (b. 1793 in Greene) but not a brother Francis. I'm able to trace the my Allen's back to Samuel (b. 1588 in England) who came to Cambridge, MA in 1632.

Starting on page 133 of the History of Litchfield, it tells about the Goodwin Family that came to Litchfield from Kennebunk.  I traced the Kennebunk Goodwins back to York (Yorkshire), Maine.

It would seem likely that descendants of people living in the greater Kittery/Portsmouth area would have migrated to the north and ended up in the Ossippee NH area.

There is a village museum in Portsmouth, NH called Strawbery Banke.  One of the restored buildings is the "Goodwin Mansion".  It is directly related to the Goodwins of York.  (The common ancestor of all the Goodwins is Daniel Goodwin or Godwin, having came from England in the 1600's was running an inn in York, ME in 1652.  However, there were other Goodwins in Southern New England before that.

I'm in Windham Maine

See page 30 and 31 of this book under David B. Allen.  My line is Jonas - David - Wallace - Reginald - Richard - me.  Reginald and on of his brothers are not in this book as the book was written in 1895 and my grandfather was born in 1905.  Jonas married a Gilman, David married a Goodwin, Wallace married a Cushing.  I can trace each of Gilman, Goodwin and Cushing back to early colonial times, but I can only get this Allen line back to 1782.  I would love to find out who Jonas' parents were and where they came from.

My husbands Allen Line is John Allen 1802-? died in Michigan, married to C Melick. Daughter Deborah marries C C Libby - Corinna , Maine.  None of the Goodwins are married to the Allens.  My husbands Goodwins start with Daniel 1617- suffolk, England and dies 1713 at Kittery, York, Maine.  The rest of the Goodwins are in Berwick& Shapleigh and then work there way to Corinna, Maine.

Tom - I am Mark Roberts' brother Stew.  Our Benjamin Roberts was born in 1742 in Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, Maine.  He was the son of our ancestor George Roberts (b. 1704).  Since this Benjamin was born in 1742, it seems unlikely any daughter could marry until at least the 1780's.  Best of luck.

It wasn't on the Allen side that I have a Goodwin. That's in the Clough line.

1] John & Jane Clough, 2]Samual Clough I and Elizabeth Browne, 3]Sam Clough II and mary Blaisdell, 4]Sam Clough III & Hannah Hutchins, 5] Noah Clough & Mary Goodwin .. I don't have anything further back on Mary Goodwin, just that she lived in Goodwin's Mills/Lyman, Maine

Could this be your Benjamin relative, Tom? He is my 5th great grand uncle.
