Gathering...

I am happy to say that there will be a big family gathering in Maine this fall!  Everyone who can will be heading to the family homestead and I hope to meet many cousins who I do not know. Between now and then I will be polishing up my genealogy work and hopefully filling in a few blanks, solving a mystery or two. Of course a few extra days added on to the trek to do some research!

A nice surprise...

not at all related to Maine but I needed to share...

I have a big tree on Ancestry, pay the fee and am working on several branches that go back to Ireland. My paternal grandmother married a nice "maine boy" but really had no family of her own as various disease made her an…

It is Official

Israel Davis and his sons Charles, Israel, Jr and John Dresser all have had their service accepted and verified by the DAR - my Cousin officially admitted earlier this month.  Now it will be my turn...

I guess my next adventure will be to find a line on my mother's side - although I figure I will find some loyalists there, perhaps. They originated in the CT area…

Israel Davis - 1728-1788 - Rev Service accepted by DAR!!!

I received the email today from my first cousin - her application to the DAR via our 6th Great Grandfather Israel Davis has been verified and accepted!

The bulk of our family genealogy work was done by my father [her uncle] and I filled in some blanks, got the records and…

A Davis Update...

Captain Israel Davis' son Charles Davis [1750-1829][ my 5th G Grandfather] moved to Davistown,ME [now Liberty] around 1805 presumably after the death of his wife [Elizabeth "Betty"Fowler (1750-1805)]. He had lived in Topsfield the majority of his life and was a farmer there. I have explored many online sources and decided to send an email to the Topsfield Library to see what material they may…

Lump of coal or black sheep - interesting finds

I have finally found a tidbit in my search that has caught me by surprise. And not really in an honorable way in my mind.

Have you ever found some information…

Common name and so many places...

my adventure has taken me to so many different places to look at records. Apparently my family is all over NE Massachusetts and they frequently have births, marriage or deaths listed in more then one VR. It sure makes it easier to find information but makes it all the more unusual that I cannot find any information about the death of my 6th Great Grandfather - Captain Israel Davis. Not a thing…

DAR

my first cousin has made the application and now just needs to prove it all. My father passed in 1999 but prior to that he took up the "hobby" of the family genealogy after he retired. He met a second cousin and the two created a very nice family history and tree back for many generations. Most of it was done the hard way...hours in library's scouring books and old microfilms. He has vast binders of stuff and we, his family, have a lovely printed spiral bound book with the gleanings of his…
