I'm trying to find the parents of this couple married in N. Yarmouth on 12 Feb 1789. Abraham died in Freeport on Feb 1806 when a tree fell on him. Elizabeth was given his widow's pension for his service in the Continental Army, 8th Company, 3rd Massachusetts Regiment . I'm descended from their son Thomas and grandson Amasa. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, my name is Deborah Landry Bean. I am researching my Coffin relatives. My grandmother's name was Eva May Coffin Landry. She was from Freeport but lived in Yarmouth with my grandfather Solomon Landry.  Her father was Orin Coffin. His grandfather's name was Stephen Coffin, married to Rhoda Welch ( I think). I am looking for info on Rhoda Welch's family. I see a possible Thomas Welch and Elizabeth Winslow but no more info on them? Any help would be appreciated! It's been a long haul trying to find them! Debbie

Hi Debbie,

I understand your frustration. I've been trying to break the Winslow/Welch barrier for nearly 50 years.

Stephen Coffin  Jr. and Rhoda Welch are my 4th great grandparents. Their son, Stephen Coffin III is my 3rd great grandfather. I have a notarized copy of his birth record. He was born July 15, 1809 in Freeport, Maine, to Stephen Coffin Jr. and Rhoda Welch (mother's maiden name).

This Stephen(really the 3rd III)is listed as Stephen Jr. on his notarized marriage record to Miss Mary Ann Grouse (often spelled Gross). They were married Nov. 17, 1830. Their son, Samuel K. Coffin and Elizabeth F. Winslow are my 2nd great grandparents.

Elizabeth Winslow and Thomas Welch are hard to place. There are probably more than one. My 2nd great grandparents are Elizabeth F. Winslow and Samuel K, Coffin.

My 5th great grandparents were Elizabeth Betsey Welch and Abraham Winslow. They were married in Freeport in 1789. Marcy Winslow and Jeremiah Clough were married 2 years later in Freeport. Only one of the 5 Clough children survived. Her name was Esther and she married Thomas W. Winslow, the first born child of Abraham and Betsey. Might these be members of the same Winslow family?

If you are able to access Ancestry.com, my family tree is Winslow Coffin. If not, let me know.

Good luck,

Beth

Hi Beth,

My name is Heidi (Winslow) Gallo. My 5th great grandparents are also Elizabeth and Abraham. My 4th great grandparents were Thomas W. Winslow and Esther Clough, then 3rd, Joseph H. Winslow and Lucinda Mitchell, and then my great grandfather Dennis E. Winslow of Yarmouth, ME.

This search for Abraham's parents is driving me crazy, and it's so sad we cannot find an answer. I recently joined Ancestry.com and was very grateful for your research. Some people have Abraham's birth date as 9/10/1768 the same day as an Abraham born to Kenelm Winslow V of Harwich, MA. I have the Winslow Memorial Book, and that Abraham is listed as a twin that died at infancy. Kenelm named another son Abraham who was born Oct. 24, 1770 and did not settle in Maine.  I think that pretty much proves that the Abraham born 9/10/1768 did die in infancy. Then others have Samuel Winslow and Ruth Morrell listed as his parents, but there is no record of them having a son Abraham.

Please let me know if you ever find an answer to this mystery. I have contacted a long lost cousin via mail to see if he may be able to shed some light on this, as his wife was a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants. I was hoping to trace our tree accurately back that far so that I could apply to belong. With the 400th anniversary of the landing of the Mayflower coming next year, it spurred me on to research this. Also in honor of my Dad, as I am the end of the line for his tree, as I did not have any children.

Looking forward to your reply,

Heidi
