Deed: James Starbird to Lemuel Dunham, 29 Oct. 1861


Know all Men by these Presents, That

James Starbird of Hartford County of Oxford and State of Maine, in consideration of the sum of seven hundred dollars, paid by Lemuel Dunham of Hartford aforesaid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, do hereby give, grant, bargain, sell, and convey unto the said Lemuel Dunham, his heirs and assigns forever a certain piece or parcel of land situated in said Hartford being a part of lot numbered nine in the tenth range of lots in said Hartford and bounded and described as follows Viz, Westerly by a line drawn North and South from a stake and stones standing on the North side of the road leading through said lot; On the North and South by the original lot lines. Easterly by land owned by David Mason containing fifty acres be the same more or less Also one other piece of land adjoining the land above described and bounded as follows Viz, Beginning at the southeast corner of land owned by Robert Bates in 1853, thence east about forty rods to a stake and stones standing near an old causway bridge, thence south untill it strikes land formerly owned by Benjamin Ellis, thence west on the lot line untill it strikes land formerly sold to Robert Bates, thence north to the first mentioned bounds containing thirty acres be the same more or less. The above described premises being the same sold to James E. Starbird by deed dated March twenty fourth in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty by the said Lemuel Dunham and recorded with Oxford records Book 121 Page 206 reference being had to said deed for a more particular description.

To have and to hold the above-granted Premises, with all the privileges and appurtenances thereunto belonging to the said Lemuel Dunham his heirs and assigns to his use and behoof forever. And I the said James Starbird for myself and my heirs, executors, and administrators, do covenant with the said Lemuel Dunham his heirs and assigns, that I am lawfully seized in fee of the afore-granted Premises; they are free of all incumbrances [;] that I have a good right to sell and convey the same to the said Lemuel Dunham as aforesaid ; and that I will and my heirs, executors, and administrators shall and will WARRANT AND DEFEND the same to the said Lemuel Dunham his heirs and assigns forever, against the lawful claims and demands of all persons.

In witness whereof, I the said James Starbird and Hannah Starbird, the wife of the James Starbird in token of her relinquishment of all her right of dower in and to the above described premises in consideration of the above have hereunto set our hands and seals this twenty ninth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty one.
