I am trying to track down the ancestry of my father, Wesley Eastman. His grandfather came from Bancor, Maine and his name was Freeman H. Eastman. He was once married to Anna Wheelden but apparently that didn't last long. His parents were John and Rozilla Eastman and he had two siblings, Sylvester and Dendah. I am searching for the next generation and was hoping that someone may have information on the family. Thank you.

Rosilla's maiden name was Higgins. According to this book, she was the daughter of Prince and Ruth (Newcomb) Higgins, born 24 Jan. 1823, d. 5 Dec. 1856. They had three children: Diana H., b. 31 Aug. 1843; Freeman H., b. 30 Aug. 1845; and Sylvester, b. 24 Mar. 1848. Both Sylvester and Diana (called "Adah" in the census) were living in Orrington with relatives in 1860: he with grandmother Ruth (Newcomb) (Higgins) Freeman, she with cousin Charles Newcomb. She was probably the Ada H. Eastman who married in Orrington in 1861. (Her mother had sisters named Diana and Adah, so perhaps her name was actually "Diadah," as the 1850 census appears to say.)

John Eastman is supposedly buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Orrington, as is Rosilla.

I haven't been able to figure out John Eastman's parentage.

Thank you for confirming some of my information and giving me additional data to include in my ancestry.  Did you ever come across the name Anna Wheelden?  I do know that there was a music store in Bangor owned by a Wheelden, but I don't know if they are related.  Since Anna was Freeman's first wife, I would like to find some more information about her.

My father always said that we have some Indian blood and I have been trying to trace our roots to tribes in Maine.  I also want to get more information on Samuel Eastman, John's brother.  He had a son named John A. who dealt in horses.....another rumor handed down in the family that there was a horse thief in the family.

There was a cluster of Wheeldens living in Orrington, but I can't identify Anna in censuses previous to 1870.
