I need not explain the names like BROWN are extremely difficult to trace.

I have been tracing my Brown line for 10 years + and because I am stubborn refuse to drop my search.

My Samuel Brown was b. 1814 and died 6 Feb 1883 in Yarmouth, Maine.

He married twice...#1 Alphonza Drinkwater #2 Sarah Mariah True ( my line)

It is my theory my Samuel was the son of Benjamin Brown ( a spendthrift) and Rachel Stevens both b. Greene, Maine

In the 1850 census they were living with son Thomas W. in Newburgh, Maine and both gone by 1860. I have tried very hard to find all the children Benjamin and Rachel had...and can only identify two..Thomas W. (wife Druscilla) and Benjamin Jr (have only seen the name) After they married Benjamin and Rachel moved from Greene to Leeds, Me

and may have live in other towns. This has been a thorn in my side for many years and I can only search online (due to distance)...HOW I WOULD LOVE TO SOLVE THIS "BRICK WALL" It is my hope this will ring a bell with another researcher and I can finally find a family for my Samuel.

I feel your pain Joan.  I have a Samuel Brown in a tree I'm working on (born in 1793 SOMEwhere in MA).  He married a Betsey Wardwell from Otisfield, ME., but I am getting very little information from the normal sources.  My person claims to have a percentage of native american blood, and I'm not seeing that though any of the other lines, so I have to wonder if thats a possiblilty...

Troy, I suspect your Samuel Brown was the brother of Osgood Brown, who was enumerated just after him in Albany in 1820 and later lived in Bethel. Osgood and Hannah (Mears) Brown of Tewksbury, Mass., had sons Samuel (b. 4 June 1792) and Osgood (b. 21 Apr. 1794). Many of the early settlers of Albany came from that part of Massachusetts.

I am related to Benjamin Brown - the Surgeon.  We have a Hector MacNeil Brown and a Ralph Waldo Emerson Brown.
