My grandmother's name was Gertrude Taylor.  My mother was born in Augusta, Me on Dec 9, 1931.  Here parents were Daniel Rupp and Gertrude Taylor.  They divorced when my mother was a child and she never saw her mother again.  I would love to find out what happened to Gertrude.

It appears that your grandparents married in 1929, divorced, and then married again in 1933.

The 1930 census shows Gertrude and Daniel living in Augusta with Gertrude's parents, William W. and Abbie L. Taylor.

This is pure speculation, but I find in Maine birth records at Ancestry.com a Gertrude May Taylor born Jan. 1912 in Kennebec County. A Gertrude Mae Penn, born 18 Jan. 1912, died 8 Oct. 1968 in Augusta, and was buried with husband Spencer R. Penn in Coombs Cemetery, Augusta. I don't have an Ancestry.com subscription at the moment, so I can't confirm that the birth dates match. I can't find a marriage record for Spencer and Gertrude in Maine. Nor can I find either Spencer Penn or Gertrude (Taylor) Rupp in the 1940 census. Gertrude Penn's Social Security card was issued in Texas, so perhaps she and Spencer were living there in 1940. (The 1940 census index for Texas hasn't yet been published.) Again, this is just speculation.

I appreciate this. My mother's middle name was Mae so that must be what Gertrude's M stood for. It seems that my grandfather married both of his wives twice. Finding Gertrude's parents was a nice surprise! Thank you! My father's New England family has been much easier to find: Spencer, Hooper, Rawley...
