I am trying to find out the parents of my grandmother on my moms side. Her name is Mary L Griffin maiden name Newman. She was born April 27, 1928 and died August 26, 2000. She married George K Griffin on June 9, 1952. They have a daughter, Sharon Ann born on March 14, 1954 (who is my mom).

I am also trying to track down relatives of my grandfather, George K Griffin. Born February 16,1927 and died May 1,1994.

They lived in Scarborough, S Portland and Portland Maine.

I also have looked on Ancestry.com and am at a road block with this. Was hoping maybe this site would help.

if you have any information that might be relevant feel free to message me or email me at sheila.nicholson1976@gmail.com

Thanks!

In 1930, a George K. Griffin, aged 3, lived with his parents Ira W. and Corinne F. Griffin at 6 St. Lawrence Street in Portland (Corinne's maiden name was Alexander). A Mary Newman, aged 2, lived with her parents John M. and Hilda B. Newman at 30 Greenleaf Street (about half a mile away from George).

If they remained in those locations, it appears that both children would have attended the old Shailer Elementary School on North Street.

Thanks Chris!! i had found that information through Ancestry.com except for the street addresses and the school info.  I did some more looking last night and i did find that A George H Griffin and Julia E Doughty had a son Ira W so i am now trying to confirm if that indeed is correct.

Portland Press Herald (ME) May 3, 1994
Page 9B

George K. Griffin, 67, of Ritzcraft Street died Sunday at a Portland hospital after a brief illness.

He was born in Portland, a son of Ira and Corrine Alexander Griffin, and attended Portland schools.

Most recently, Mr. Griffin was employed at Yerxa's Gardening Center, and before that he had worked for S.D. Warren Co. and Bancroft & Martin.

An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in South Portland.

I did find their marriage record to confirm (Attached)

Hope this Helps confirm at least his parentage.
