I will add a note about the Niskanens. I saw this online, but no one has added since 2013, so I am not sure this will be seen.

I am related to quite a few Niskanens through Julia Kuula Stein, who came to Maine in the early 1900's. Julia moved to New Hampshire after marrying my grandfather, John Elmer Stein. Her mother was Gustava Niskanen Kuula, who moved to Fithcburg, Mass around that time.

Brother of Gustava Niskanen is Johan Niskanen. Distant couisns are Matts Niskanen , born 1825 and Anna Niskanen, born 1828, Very distant relative is Johan Niskanen on this site. But I would love to know more about him, and any Niskanens who came to the U.S.

More information would be helpful on Matti Stein. He lived in Long Cove, Maine for a very short time. It is possible the family used the name Johnson. Mathilda Leppanen Stein, a midwife, left the area and moved to Fitchburg when Matti died. in 1897. Records are mixed up. I think there are records for John Stein, his brother and his wife. Also other Steins who lived in St. George. Matti worked in a quarry, I believe - Booth Brothers Hurricane Granite Quarry. He fell from a roof and was seriously hurt. Later died from injuries. A cousin, Joy Sten got this information from her father, Harold Sten. Any information would be helpful.
