Thanks to a member of  Maine Genealogy Net, Jean P,   I might have found out why I can find no information on my 4th GGrandfather Nathaniel Norton's parents. Nathaniel was  b. 1 Aug 1762 in Sanford, ME according to Rev War records. He married Hannah Sawyer and  all but one of their children stayed in Maine. Their son, Reuben, is my ancestor and the only one who left ME.

Jean located a York County court record for Abigail Norton who was fined for having a child out of wedlock on 1 Aug 1762.  Abigail was from Biddeford and was the daughter of Josiah Norton. Later in census it seems she was married twice, once to a Mr Pierce and then Mr Braun(Brown). A Benjamin Norton, son of Josiah, is living next to Nathaniel on the old York County map.  He was Abigail's brother.  We will continue to look for verification of all this information.

Of course, this does not tell us who the father was but my brother did DNA test a few years ago and it might help us find the answers to our questions.  Of the 5 exact matches of his 25 marker test, three of the surnames are Gray. One is Hamilton and the other is Cullen. Our next step is to upgrade to 37 or more markers. In the mean time we are searching the surname Gray in Biddeford, Sanford and Limington.  Hopefully, there may be family stories that might prove our theory.

Jean also located the place where Nathaniel and Hannah were buried and it is indeed on the Cornish line. She even sent me pictures.  These things she has done for me will be appreciated forever.

Jean you are a great super sleuth!!
