Any information on the Penney family would be greatly appreciated.  My great grandfather was Walter Joseph Penney, who was born in Maine and moved to Massachusetts and finally Rhode Island.  His son, George Joseph Sr., moved to Connecticut where the rest of my family ended up.  My father was George Joseph Jr.

From what I have gathered so far, Walter's parents were George and Anna (Webster) Penney which seems to make the line relatively easy to trace back to Thomas Penny.

Mark,

Do you have the Penney Genealogy by John Witham Penney ? If not here is a link http://archive.org/details/genealogicalreco1897penn. Your line is George Penney (born Knox, Waldo Co.) son of Robert Penney, Jr. and Sarah Williams. Robert Penney Jr. (born Knox, Waldo Co.) son of Robert Penney, Sr.  and Dorcas Noble. Robert Penney Sr. (born New Gloucester, Cumberland Co.)  son of Thomas Penney and Lydia Herring. Robert Penney, Jr. appears on p. 43 of the Penney Genealogy.

Hello Mark,

If what Alan Trundy wrote above is accurate, we are distant cousins (something like fifth cousins I think). My line is from Joseph Penney, son of Robert Penney Sr and Dorcas Noble, who was 18 months younger than your ancestor Robert Penney Jr. My direct family all still live in Maine, I'm the only one who moved away.

Hi Samantha.  We are cousins :-)  Alan was very right (a belated thank you to Alan).  After I got hold of the book I was able to line things up correctly with other documents that I had been able to get hold of. Robert Jr. seemed to have gone off on his own at one point and documentation is scarce apart from census info.  I did track him to Unity in 1888 where he had been taken care of by his son, George (my GGGF).  After that the line moved to MA, RI, and then finally CT which is where I am at.
