Hi! Kip, on Walter Davis b 1797. I don't have a Walter Davis in my geno but I do have lots of Davis names. I found the immigrant, James Davis b 1584, arriving New Hampshire 1607 aboard the ship "Gift of God." He brought seven children, wife and two servants. I believe all the children married in NH. My ancestor, Asa Davis, moved up to Somerset Co. and served in the War of 1812 and d in Skowhegan. The other children stayed in NH and MA. I found much information on "Davis" lines in "The History of Canterbury, NH" and "History of Durham, NH" by James O. Lyford. Both manuscripts are available online-PFD's google. You may want to take a look. The "Davis" line is quite extensive. I just learned recently the name originated in Wales for the patron saint David. The Davis folks decend from an ancient tribe of Welchman. Good luck finding Walter! Sincerely, Nancy Davis
