Theron was born a year before Martin v married Nancy Pease17 feb 1861. but is listed h.of Leah Peare/s.of Martin & nancy Whitney/b.fayette
riverside cemetary records:
Leah Peare Whitney 1861- 8/16/1914
Theron Whitney 1860 - 12/12/1936 lot 0442
Hi Nelson, given that you mention Elthia Hatch, do you happen to know of a Phoebe Hatch that was in the Greene area?
Thomas Ray 1780 & Elthia Hatch 1809 greene,me
Why is Martin V. Whitney buried in Peare Cemetery? Again, this is just an assumption, but I do know that James Peare is the person that provided the land to establish that cemetery. Given that Martin resided w/ this Peare and his daughter Elizabeth Peare Rowe (widowed) in 1880 and the info we've since discovered about Theron and the assumption that his birth mother was a 'Rowe'...There is definately a connection and I believe this is why we find Martin buried in this cemetery.
Hi Nelson, I'm leading towards Lewiston for a burial place for Theron and Z. Leah Peare...in 1900 Census they are listed in Lewiston. A spelling error as she is listed as "Silpa" record states they were married for 14 yrs. ( marr: 1886) and record lists their children: May L. b. Nov. 1886, Walter b. Aug. 27, 1890, and Edith E b. June 1895. Then in the 1910 Census they are listed under Auburn as Theron, Leah, Walter now 18 yrs old, and Edith age 14. By Aug 15, 1914 Leah is deceased in Auburn, Me. Then Theron is in 1920 Census (unknown where but in Androscoggin cty.) Census record states his age: 57, and also lists son Walter living there age: 29 and also Martin now age 85. In 1930 Census I find Walter, Theron's son living in Greene, married to Estella w/ a child named Marie P, age 8. No idea where Theron is in yr. 1930..Theron died 1940....we need to look in Auburn or Lewiston for her burial place ..of course this is just an assumption on my part I've no found proof yet!
I'm w/ you as the Peare and Rowe 's that I'm talking of are in Greene.
Of course, that is assuming 'Elizabeth Peare Rowe was THE Rowe that is assumed to be Theron's birth mother.
Nelson, I'm now really perplexed w/ this Theron Whitney having a birth mother by the name of Rowe, I've spent the late afternoon and evening digging thru my notebooks looking into info re: Martin VanBuren Whitney and where he was during all the census', also Theron C. Whitney and his wife Zephalor/Zilpha Leah Peare and their children: Walter, May, and Edith. The info you gave me today says Theron's Mother was a Rowe and his Father: Martin lived in household w/ Elizabeth (Peare) Rowe (widow of David Rowe)...now get this!!!..Theron's wife Zilpha Leah Peare was the daughter of Darius Peare which is a brother to Elizabeth Peare Rowe!!! I realize it is very possible that people back then married their first cousins, so this really has me stumped, could it be??
