Randy, I share your interest in the Coles of Wells, ME. I'm related through Samuel Cole 1683-1749 Son of Thomas Cole killed between York and Wells 24 June 1696. Thomas was the son of Nicholas who ran the ferry at Cape Porpus and most sources say the son of a William Cole.
I also have speculated about a link between the Saunders (Sanders) and our Cole line. I also believe there is a link to Richard Vines and Thomas Cole of Winter Harbor 1617. Nicholas had such an interesting life. My line seems to have avoided records as much as possible by staying on the edge of civilization and moving inland as cities and towns were established.
I have been in search of a living relative of my great grandparents in the hopes of having them do a DNA test before I lose the opportunity.
I'm related to the Coles through my grandmother so I'm afraid I'm not much help other than I am seeking the same needle in the haystack.
I will let you know if I find a Cole relative so you can see if you are related.
I know my great grandfather's relatives moved to Palmyra, ME from Buxton, ME after the war of 1812. Those are the cousins I'm looking for.
Hi Randy. I don't come to this site very often any longer, but I always keep you in mine while I am searching. I found a new site that is just starting up. It's on face book. Come and join' its The Early New England Families after The Great Migration (1641-1700) You will have to put to tittle into the search on facebook, but it should come right up. Sorry I can't get you a full link. I do think this group will be very exciting. Luck to ya. Hope to see you in the facebook group :-)
